New House Farm Wedding Photography
New House Farm, or NHF as it’s known in the biz, is a fair but beautiful trek away from me. It’s not the quickest Lakes venue to get to, but that’s what makes it so special. Nestled in pretty Lorton Vale between the picturesque villages of Buttermere and Lorton it is beautifully remote. Handily, however, it’s not far to the town of Cockermouth so there are plenty of overflow accommodation options!
I’ve always, always loved shooting here, however I won’t lie, it did used to be quite a challenge in harsh winter weather! This is now a thing of the past, however, as the Hazel and the clever folk there have carefully re-built the stable block into a brilliant addition to the venue. With the benefit of a gorgeous new light-filled space there is now even more scope to plan out the flow of your day. I shot my first ceremony in the stables in 2022 and it was just perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I love the super-characterful old barn too, but it is nice to have two great spaces to work with!
Another huge draw this venue has is it’s utterly amazing location for portraits nearby. It is just a short drive to Crummock Water and Buttermere. Oh my DAYS there are some world-class backdrops right there. I’m a South Lakes gal, but I think these might actually be my favourite locations for Lakes portraits!
By the way, make sure your photographer or videographer has cleared permission with the National Trust to shoot there on your wedding day, or you’ll likely get stopped by the rangers!
