Merewood Elopement – A Beautifully Calm, Boho Spring Wedding With Bluebells in Bloom!
This little Merewood Elopement was such a joy to be a part of. Victoria and Matthew chose the impressive and welcoming Merewood Country House Hotel for their tiny elopement in early May 2022. With a little one on the way for these two, Merewood was the perfect place to say their vows. They could celebrate in comfort, yet also be able to easily enjoy beautiful wild backdrops for their wedding photographs.
After a perfect little Merewood elopement ceremony (we have THE best registrars in Cumbria!) we began with a few photographs indoors. Merewood has such a glorious grand stairwell for portraits and I love the dark and moody library. After making the most of these and a few other rooms we then ventured out into the beautiful spring weather.
I used to spend a lot of time running up the fell behind Merewood when I worked near there, so I know the little pathway well. In spring it is covered in the most beautiful bluebells. The heady scent of honey and hyacinth is amazing. The time of the year that bluebells flower varies quite a lot, so there is a bit of luck involved in getting the timing right for wedding photos!
After some shots in the beautiful gardens we then made a quick trip down to the lake. There are so many options for wedding photos at the venue that a lake trip isn’t essential. If you can fit it in, however, then it really does give another gorgeous dimension to your Merewood elopement photographs. Being down at the shore gives a typical Lake District feel and the view of the fells looks very different from down there. If there’s just the two of you then we can fit this into my 90 minute package.
