A Viking-inspired bridal shoot at Lowther Castle

I just realised, in a moment of shock, that these gorgeous images have been sat hidden on my hard drive for nearly 3 months! This blog is their long overdue outing.

I love to work on a handful of collaborative shoots each year. It's a chance to stretch my creative legs, network with suppliers and friends, and enjoy the luxury of a troupe of highly talented people on standby to tweak and perfect every scene. Bliss!

Our brief for this shoot was 'sexy, luxurious Viking style'. From the handmade gowns which were designed and made especially, to the jewelled berry tones of the sumptuous flowers, every single detail was carefully curated to create a highly individual look.

The shoot took place in November 2015 at Lowther Castle, an authentic Gothic castle dating back to 1806, soon to open it doors to host its first weddings.  The dew was heavy on the ground, a thick mist shrouded the castle and the trees were still heavy with Autumn colours, adding to the rich palette and contrasting perfectly with the grey stonework.

Despite all of the planning being done virtually, everything came together as we had hoped. The florals, in rich plums, damson, aubergine and peaches, perfectly matched the amazing cake and hand-painted stationery.  The brass-wear, blue-grey slate and dark crockery helped to create a fabulous feast table, punctuated with wild floral arrangements and lit by a custom made table from Typical Type, complete with hanging Edison lighting.  The overall look is a far cry from the whites and pastels of many weddings, but it was so warm and inviting that we all wished we were dining at that table.

The hair and make up were vamped up, modern versions of traditional Viking styles - heavy, smoky eyes and braided, accessorised hairstyles.  Each model brought their own, unique look to the shoot, and when they were all together they looked incredible - like true warrior princesses.

When we started to create this shoot we wanted to show that no matter what your personal taste, you can always incorporate it into your big day-  have a look and see if you think we succeeded!
